Frequently Asked Questions

1.   How much are FFA dues?
$20 - A portion of this goes to National, State, Area, District, and Local dues.
2.   Do I need an FFA jacket?
If you are going to participating in any leadership development event, show an animal, or attend the Christmas dinner and end of the year banquet you will need a jacket. They are $60 and that includes the tie or scarf needed for official dress.
3.   What is official dress?
Boys - Black pants or jeans, black shoes, white collared shirt, FFA jacket and tie


Girls - Black knee length or longer skirt, black closed toe shoes, black hose, white collared shirt, FFA jacket and scarf


All students may wear black jeans ONLY to show in along with black or very dark brown shoes.

4.   What is a CDE or LDE?
A CDE is a Career Development Event or what some people call judging contests. These are things like Livestock, judging, Dairy Cattle judging, Meats, Poultry, Floriculture, Wildlife, etc.


An LDE is a Leadership Development Event and are held in the fall semester to teach students speaking skills. These are contests like Chapter Conducting, Farm Skills, Quiz, Creed Speaking, Public Relations, Ag Issues, and Radio.

5.   What all do I need to do to raise an animal?
First, you must attend the freshmen orientation or the first FFA meeting with at least one parent to receive the Project Show Rules and sign them. Then you must pay for the animal by the Due Date given. (See calendar) Once you have done this, you must follow all the rules in the Rule Book.
6.   Does Tomball have a Jr. FFA program?
Yes, a student may join Tomball Jr. FFA, but only for purposes of showing at Major stock shows and/or Harris Co. Fair. These members CANNOT participate in the Tomball FFA Project Show and Sale.
